Sometimes, statistics by themselves cannot impress upon our collective selves the severity or absurdity of a situation, particularly when the numbers are too big, too difficult to digest.
Sometimes, it takes a graph, a representative model, an image.
Here, I present such a simple image that is rooted, at its core, in impossible statistics.

Hot Topic, the store known for subverting gender stereotypes, is now catering to them by separating its online clothing store into “Guys” and “Girls.”
*At the moment, the petition requires a gendered title (i.e. Mr., Ms., etc.), which goes against the whole point of the cause. I apologize for the problem; I’m working on fixing it.
please sign and share this on tumblr and elsewhere! it’s important. Hot Topic has always been one of few stores that encouraged people to dress however they want and to not care about arbitrary social expectations. we need more places with that attitude. don’t ket them abandon it.

Ellen’s response to the ‘Abercrombi& Fitch’ statement.
love her
“The only number that would ever be enough is 0. Zero pounds, zero life, size zero, double-zero, zero point. Zero in tennis is love.” - Wintergirls
that’s it. no matter how small you get, it’s never enough. you always take up too much space, there’s always someone skinnier, you can always lose just one more pound.
we say “it’s such a shame that people develop eating disorders. the media should really take responsibility.” and “why would anyone do that to themselves?!”
and then we aim for size zero.
and then we aim for less.

oh and don’t forget homelessness and abuse, especially sexual, erasure, and getting told to “calm down.”
though it is amazing to see the support from voters.

sometimes i feel like my head is full of too many thoughts and pictures like the point is space that contained all the matter in the universe in one, infinitesimal area before the big bang let it all out, and my skull feels like the edges of that point that will explode at any moment.
sometimes i imagine just one image or sound that keeps getting bigger and bigger until it can’t fit in my head and i can’t think about anything else and i panic. i don’t know if this is a normal thing or if it’s just another thing wrong with me.

why do people say that the “loved ones of a person with [mental illness]” are “forgotten”
you know how many books are out there for “how to deal when your partner/family member has [mental illness]”
all we hear all the time is how much of a fuckin burden we are. i’m sick of…
an actually helpful book would have a chapter called “how to deal with the people in your life when they treat you poorly because you’re mentally ill”
other things that would have helped me so i didn’t have to learn the hard way:
“I’m Fine, Really: A guide on how to ask for help”
“I Don’t Need My Meds: recognizing when you’re spiraling before you end up hospitalized”
“Exercise and Sunshine: medication can be an extremely effective route of treatment and taking it does not make you weak; how to deal with people constantly telling you otherwise”
“Disability Services Are For You, Too: how to be a student when you’re chronically ill”
“I Hate Myself So You Should, Too: it’s okay to not love yourself, other people can, should, and still will love you”
“How To Avoid Social Vampires; you deserve people in your life who will be there for you the way you’re there for them. Bonus: how to find those people” (still haven’t figured that part out)
“Sometimes I’m Delusional: but sometimes you’re right, too; how to trust your instincts and stop invalidating yourself”
“Aren’t You Supposed To Be Helping Me?: recognizing the signs of a bad therapist”
….maybe i should write a book on this shit huh
omg. that would be a fantastic book to have.

I hate it when people post extreme diet plans where you have to eat like 100 calories a day and then ask others to join them. NO! DONT FUCKING DO THAT. There may be a ten year old out there that’s searching the web and comes across it and that ten year old doesn’t need this messed up ideas in their head. That’s how my illness started and I don’t want it to happen tk anyone else, so please don’t post things like that.
